Do Muslims Eat Eggs Benedict?

A few days ago, during a speach in his home country of Germany, Pope Benedict quoted the 14th century Byzantine Emperor Manuel II Paleologus who said. “Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.”
Basically, what Paleologus was saying, and Pope Benedict was referring to, was that Mohammed commanded his followers to spread Islam across the world, and if necessary, force religious conversion at the point of the sword. Those who wouldn’t convert were simply killed at the point of that sword. The concept of ‘Militant Missionaries’ is not a new one, nor is it unique to Islam. The Holy Roman Empire is equally guilty of a checkered past that included spreading “by the sword” the faith they preached. The Church of England did the same, as did the Jews.
The difference is, Christianity and Judaism have both matured into relatively peaceful religions (self defense not withstanding) while the ‘peace loving’ children of Islam will typically stab you in the eye if you dare besmirk the name of their beloved Mohammed. Muslims all around the world are protesting Pope Benedicts speech but their very own protests are proving the truth of his words. So far, several Christian churches have been burned (no Catholic churches though) to the ground across the middle east. Muslims are rioting in the streets and the Pope has been burned in effegy. Many islamo-fascists are calling for the destruction of the Vatican, and violence against Catholics worldwide.
It is no wonder that people are pigeon holing Muslims as dangerous, as violent, and as terrorists. Every time anyone dares to criticize the tenets of their religion, Muslims around the world riot, destroy property, burn things, and even kill innocent people. Tell a Christian that Jesus was a fake, you’ll get called a sinner and told that they’ll pray for your soul. Tell a Muslim that Mohammed was a fake and you’re likely to get strung, quartered, and decapitated.
If Muslims around the world want to be taken seriously and their religious beliefs given the respects that they believe it deserves, then they need to stop reacting to critiques of their religion with raving madness and destruction and instead react with reasonable dialogue and constructive debate.
“Moderate” Muslims continually cry that the fundamentalists do not represent their entire religion, but until the “moderates” start to do something about the fanatics, they will continue to have egg on their faces.
